Book Happenings
There is some bu-z-zzz-zz out there. If you have not heard Secret Life Of Bees by Sue Monk-Kidd will be coming out in theatres in October. Queen Latifah will be casted as August. We read the book this month and enjoyed it. We tried to figure who would be cast as whom. Well we were wrong we did not picture Queen Latifah as August. You can view the trailer here.
A new book that hit the shelves this summer, and people are buzzing about this book as the best debut this summer In her rave review in today's New York Times, Janet Maslin calls The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, by David Wroblewski, the "most enchanting debut of the summer." In the novel, Wroblewski tells the story of Edgar Sawtelle, born mute, speaking only in sign, he lives an idyllic life on his family's farm in northern Wisconsin raising dogs. When his uncle Claude returns to the family and his father dies unexpectedly, Claude's intrusion into their lives, and his mother's affections, sets off a chain of events and Edgar finds himself on his own, struggling to come to terms with what has happened as he comes of age. July's book Pick- Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Our next book we will be discussing Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.
We will be inviting a professor from CCU.
The synopsis of Sense and Sensibility is about two sisters.
Elinor is thoughtful and considerate and calm. Her younger sister, Marianne is wildly romantic, and emotional. Both are looking for a husband. But neither Elinor's reason or Marianne's passion can lead them to perfect happiness. As Marianne falls for a unscrupulous rascal and Elinor becomes attached to a man that is already engaged.
Startling secrets, unexpected twists, and heartless betrayals, interrupt the marriage games that follow. ( From the back cover of BN Sense and Sensibility).
